It’s June in Los Angeles. You stumble across a woman with a vintage typewriter. After giving her just a word and a few bucks, she writes you a bespoke poem on the spot. You feel seen, you feel lighter, and you can’t help but smile as you go about your day.
But the Poet? Oh, she’s a total mess.

Freshly unemployed and heartbroken, our Poet opts to make ends meet by writing for strangers on the street. But what started as a wholesome operation has quickly illuminated her lack of direction, cynical nature, and fleeting sense of identity. With each interaction, the audience peeks further into her inner world, rich with contradiction, sharp humor, and a stubborn sense of splendor.

An exploration of purpose, presence, and the power of community, Poetry For Strangers does not answer the question: What is poetry? But rather: What is poetry capable of? Source

“Mom, Are You There?” is a raw, poignant exploration of a young woman’s struggle with identity, shame, and the familial bonds that shape her world. Set between her Hollywood and Pasadena homes, comedian Mary Basmadjian tells a deeply personal story of a chubby Armenian girl, raised in an immigrant household filled with the warmth and love of her grandparents, yet shadowed by the neglect and estrangement of her young mother. Growing up in a chaotic environment, Mary finds solace in a tight-knit group of destructive friends, Mary Jane, Edie, and Shame, who lead her through her most formative years, offering comfort in the form of rebellion and escapism.

The creative journey of shedding shame through her art has been both painful and liberating. “Mom, Are You There?” has lived in Mary’s heart for nearly a decade, and the opportunity to share it now is a testament to years of self-exploration and healing. With this show Mary aims to honor both the struggles and the triumphs that have shaped her path, while grounding herself in the homes – both real and emotional – that have formed her identity. source

A “yogi” is not a skinny woman in Lululemon, but someone who renounces worldly life in pursuit of truth. Embark on a journey with Mayuri and the Goddess of Death, Kali, as they investigate absurdities of Western Yoga culture. As a yoga professor, Mayuri finds herself in a twisty identity crisis as she navigates teaching a practice that’s supposed to be her “thing”. What can her purpose be beyond educating people about yoga? Will the formidable Goddess Kali clear her path? Through a unique blend of dance, dramedy, live percussion and poetry, The Anti “Yogi” gives a much needed voice to Yoga, calling out its recolonization in the West and nationalization in the East. This show peels back the yoga mat to reveal the true ethos of Yoga, through a sensory immersive experience!

PS. You don’t have to anything about yoga to see this show 😉

PC: Srikar Kolluru

Where Within is a new, family-friendly, folklore inspired musical about learning to navigate a strange new world together. When distant siblings Harper and Cameron find themselves separated in a mysterious forest, they cross paths with mystical creatures—an exuberant band of will-o’-the-wisps and a strange spirit-warden—that help bring them back to each other.

Inspired by Celtic folk culture and woven together with a simple story of learning to trust and support others during times of immense change, Where Within speaks to the importance of facing the unknown together.

All profits and donations from Where Within will go towards supporting Young Storytellers, a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles that equips young people to be the driving force of their own narratives. Through the help of volunteer mentors and actors, YS helps young people to tell their own stories. We are thrilled to be putting on Where Within in support of this wonderful local organization! How much can you control your world? Well, you don’t have to think about it if you just build your own, right?

Come take your seat at the table to hear Walt’s vision – for his movies, for his city, for his life. For this screenplay he’s written! His family will be there and they think he’s brilliant. You will be so happy you came to be part of something so real and important. There will be no accidents and no reminders that he’s going to die. Ever.

Originally premiering Off-Broadway at Soho Rep in New York, A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney is a play written by Obie Award-winner Lucas Hnath (A Doll’s House, Part 2; Dana H.; The Christians). This production is directed by Brian Eckert and produced with Sidne Phillips. Taken from the website.
