As evolved from the Internet, The Nether is a near-future immersive virtual reality space wherein users can login and live out a reality of their choice.
While all citizens depend on the Nether for education, employment, and recreation, many choose to exist entirely on the Nether as “shades” and remain permanently cut off from real life.
When young Detective Morris stumbles upon a Victorian-era dreamscape where users engage sexually with underage girls, she is tasked to face the darkest landscapes of the human collective.
Through Jennifer Haley’s brilliant story, “The Nether,” audiences are confronted: How must human consciousness, connection, and intimacy evolve alongside technology?
