Winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play, “Clybourne Park” is a razor-sharp satire about the politics of race. Inspired by Lorraine Hansberry&s “A Raisin In The Sun,” “Clybourne Park” is a provocative comedy/drama set in the same house but before and after the events of Hansberry&s play. Act one takes place in 1959 when Russ and Bev are moving to the Chicago suburbs, selling their home to the neighborhood&s first black family. Act two is decades later when a young white couple buys the same property. Now a predominately black community battles to protect the historic qualities of the community in the face of gentrification. Taken from the website.

Great Show! LA Theatre Bites Recommended!

What is the absurdity — and danger — of a world where the feelings of some people matter more than those of others? When Sofia is hired as an empathy coach at a debt collection agency, she finds she has her work cut out for her. These employees can barely identify what an emotion is, much less practice deep, radical compassion for others. As they painstakingly stumble towards enlightenment, someone keeps mugging Eva in the kitchen, and the unspoken dynamics of their seemingly blithe workplace culture become increasingly unsettling. MASTERPIECE! LA THEATRE BITES RECOMMENDED!

JAN 21 – FEB 25,2023

Brothers Play is about love. Brotherhood. Men. How men must heal together. How we must stop ruining own lives, the lives of those around us, and the wider world by embracing our vulnerability and our humanity. To stop hiding away our wounds, and instead, bring them to light.

Laughter heals. Thus, Brothers Play is a rip-roaring comedy. Yes a comedy about the long-term effects of trauma left in the wake of men who are survivors of sex abuse. It is funny. It is funny and sad to see how characters shattered into a million bits often tear at each other’s hearts.

Will they manage to put themselves back together again? Come to the play and find out! Taken from the website.

How much can you control your world? Well, you don’t have to think about it if you just build your own, right?

Come take your seat at the table to hear Walt’s vision – for his movies, for his city, for his life. For this screenplay he’s written! His family will be there and they think he’s brilliant. You will be so happy you came to be part of something so real and important. There will be no accidents and no reminders that he’s going to die. Ever.

Originally premiering Off-Broadway at Soho Rep in New York, A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney is a play written by Obie Award-winner Lucas Hnath (A Doll’s House, Part 2; Dana H.; The Christians). This production is directed by Brian Eckert and produced with Sidne Phillips. Taken from the website.

LA Theatre Bites – Podcast · West Coast Premiere: Home Front @ Victory Theatre in Burbank – Review

HOME FRONT is the story of an interracial love affair by Tony Award-winning playwright Warren Leight. An African American soldier and a white woman fall in love the night World War II ends — a time of euphoria for Americans after years of devastating conflict. Can that sense of goodwill and new beginnings wipe away the racial mistrust and discrimination in a country still deeply mired in the Jim Crow Era? Taken from the website.
