The LA Theatre Bite Award is given to someone who has devoted themselves to the Los Angeles Theatre Scene over the years. When we thought about people who have dedicated their time and effort to this city’s theatre scene, for this person, we didn’t just have to go back a decade – there are multiple decades. Don Shirley has been and still is an avid promoter of the arts through his Angeles Stage substack and his long-time work with the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle. Someone I’ve spoken with who has an immense amount of knowledge about this city; It’s overwhelming at times talking to him, but he’s a fantastic journalist and has a genuine love for theatre, which is evident in his writings. And the critical coverage he has provided over the years through the Los Angeles Times, LA Observed, LA Citybeat, and as a columnist for LA Stage Watch. I’ve probably missed some.
